Positive Post Tuesday

it’s tuesday

time to inject some positivity into our tuesday reading, and today’s injection is a healthy dose of pastor john macarthur.

i’m not a ‘fan’ of john macarthur, in that i don’t really read his books or listen to his studies. i disagree with some of his stances on, say, the doctrines of freewill and sovereignty, but i do respect him and count him as a faithful minister of the Gospel.

my opinion of him was pretty limited until recently when a friend sent me some links of mr. macarthur on larry king’s program.

here’s one:

it’s hard to be a ‘celebrity’ christian (by celebrity i mean being on tv, being recognizable by millions of people, being a household name). it’s a hard thing to go on larry king and answer these tough questions without watering down the truth, so i applaud believers when they do get on international television and clearly enunciate the Gospel of Jesus Christ before tens of millions of people.

interestingly, in a setting where we see 3 christians being interviewed only 1 of them says that we can’t find our own way to heaven, but we can freely take God’s way.

it may be easier to tell people that truth is in the eye of the beholder and that it’s God’s decision who makes it into heaven, but while the latter is true, the former is not. God does decide, and He’s gone to great lengths to reveal to us how He decides, and how we might be in line with His will for our lives. 1 guy on this interview denied that and 1 proclaimed it.

so good job john macarthur. though some might label you as close-minded or unloving, others of us saw that you told the world that Jesus wants to redeem them and that there is a way to be secure in salvation.

now i want to tell someone the same thing.

blessings

I used to count myself as one of the many who always thought, “Oh yeah, John MacArthur is that really old, conservative, no-fun, fire and brimstone kind of guy.”

That actually is very far from the truth. (thanks to my mother-in-law…she honestly has read or bought nearly every one of his 150+ books) I have realized that he is a really gifted teacher (there’s a reason that they print a ton of Bibles with his commentary) who strongly believes in the truth and accuracy of the ENTIRE Word of God. And for the most part, if you don’t like what he has to say, take it up with God, because he teaches the Bible and only the Bible.

So, great post Gene…and go read a John MacArthur book/commentary/devotional.
