40 Day Fast
if you spend time going from christian blog to christian blog you eventually hear about blogging events or theme participation or other cooperative sorts of posting that people do together (wow, what a coherent sentence that was…).
last year in my e-travels i came across something called the 40 day fast. i didn’t pay a ton of attention to it, but i remember thinking that it was a pretty cool thing.
truthfully, i think that fasting is a really valuable spiritual discipline that has been all but abandoned in the west. we encourage folks at church to fast on the last day of the month and to seek the Lord through prayer, to see what He might desire to do through us as individuals, as families, as a congregation.
the 40 day fast expresses it’s purpose thusly:
Who:
40 bloggers who will each fast for 1 day. What:
They will blog about an area of need in the world (either a cause or a country) and an organization that strives to meet that need. Why:
The purpose behind it is to give people an opportunity to:
1. Experience a bit of need
2. Learn about the need in the world
3. Do something about itWhen:
The fast starts on June 23, 2008 and ends on August 1, 2008
this year i signed up to be a part of the fast. for my part, i’ll be posting about Gospel For Asia, a ministry i talk about from time to time and feel very strongly about.
so, take some time to check out the 40 day fast. not sure what all the other folks will be posting about, but perhaps the Lord will stir your heart to reach out with His love and strength and be a part of spreading the Gospel of grace to a lost world.
