The Main Thing
wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom.
and in all your getting, get understanding.
[ Proverbs 4:7 ]
it is interesting that there is such a move away from studying doctrine in american Christianity today. the writer of the Proverbs understood that wisdom, the application of God’s words, was the main thing.
our faith is not to be without works, but how do we figure out which works to do that please God? by studying His word.
our message is simple, and it is the power of salvation, but how do we know what the message is? by studying God’s word.
there seems to be this idea that studying the Bible and helping those around us are mutually exclusive. however, Solomon thought something very different:
she [wisdom] will place on your head an ornament of grace.
[ Proverbs 4:9 ]
seems as though the Bible is saying that the more we store up God’s wisdom and His word, the more grace we will have. and it is grace that ministers to all those people around us who need physical and emotional and financial and, most importantly, eternal help.
not a sermon…just something i realized today.

Yes. Really good here Gene. And I notice it as well – the desire to equate regularly studying The scripture and immersing ourselves in God’s Holy Word to helping out those around us, as one in the same.
Very relevant, important points here.
Thank you.
