Positive Post Tuesday
today’s positive post is for my friend david. he and his family have been coming to our church for at least the last decade. david and carla are wonderful, giving people.
i was thinking about him because another friend of mine is getting married in november and was asking me about my wedding ring.
this wedding ring:
that got me thinking about david.
see, david is a machinist at Del Monte and is also quite resourceful in working with metal. he fashioned my ring out of a lump of titanium. then he fashioned a smaller duplicate of it for times when kelly needed a more…utilitarian ring (peru isn’t really the best place for a diamond).
i was thinking about david and how he made my ring and how he did so freely. and that still encourages me a lot.
it isn’t often that people give things like this freely anymore. while that is somewhat sad, it makes the rare instances of generosity even more meaningful.
now, when i see my ring i think of my wife, my marriage and the life before us. but i also think of david and carla and how richly they have blessed us with their love and generosity.
be positive!

kudos to David…your wedding ring is one of my favorite rings…not that I’m a ring expert or anything…
Thats pretty sweet. And yes it is awesome when someone gives freely!
Great story and a great friend you have there.
I think it’s cool that your ring is titanium. What motivated you to choose that metal?
I have a titanium wedding band with a thin gold band inlaid in it (made by Talisman Metalsmiths http://www.metalsmiths.com/titan5.jpg). For me the gold circle is the traditional symbolism of marriage. Wrapping it in the strength of the titanium symbolizes the covenant of marriage wrapped in the strength of God’s faithfulness and love.
Keep up the great posts. I love dropping by to read your blog.
@Bubba – thanks for the comment and thanks for stopping by.
i picked titanium because of its durability and low weight. also, david was able to manipulate it to any design i wanted, which was great.
plus it makes me feel like a superhero. TITANIUM!
