This Time Last Year

Posted in blogger's digest, blogging on January 31st, 2009 by genepensiero – Comments Off

this time last year we talked about some verses in Hosea.

two years ago we talked about a (still unresolved) knee injury & reviewed a sad, paltry dave matthews album.

what was going on with your blog last year?

happy wednesday.

today i’m headed over to Kings Christian School to share @ their high school chapel, so if you read this before 10:30am and want to give me a quick prayer, it would be much appreciated.

during the final days before the election i broke my news fast to prepare myself and get some information.

now, the news fast is back on, except for wednesday mornings where we share headlines that we think are important or interesting.

the folks over at 123people.com have a nifty little search engine.

type a name, then wait a few seconds and you will see pictures, addresses, phone numbers, email, weblinks, IM user names, news, blogs, social network profiles, documents and biographies of that person.

all in one web 2.0 space.

the world just got a little smaller…

Battle Time

kelly and i like reading. the problem is we don’t do very much of it.

so, recently we’ve been trying to block out more time for that activity and, i’m proud to say, that we’ve each finished a couple books in the last month or two (kelly more than me…).

since then i’ve taken notice of the e-readers that are out there. obviously the most well known device is Amazon’s Kindle.

while being a little reminiscent of 1982′s Tron, the kindle was still the first kid to the party, so we’ll give that to them.

but these days the playing field is widening.

and i think you’ll agree that the kindle is in trouble.

which e-reader would you choose:

the amazon kindle
$359

the sony prs-700
$400

the plastic logic e-reader

Who Are Those Guys? Fifth of September

Posted in blogger's digest, blogging, who are those guys? on August 9th, 2008 by genepensiero – 3 Comments

i always get a kick out of seeing the search terms people used before landing on my blog. like i’ve said before, sometimes people get here through searching for something that they aren’t going to find here on Jesus Is Extravagant.

in my desire to be an all-around nice guy, i am trying to make amends to those people who find themselves here without discovering the objects of their googling.

so, today’s installment is ‘The Fifth Of September’…Who Are Those Guys?

i know my syntax is all broken down…but just play along.

for some reason i consistently get visits from people searching things like: ‘remember, remember, the fifth of september’

WHY DO PEOPLE SEARCH THAT?

those who are searching using this phrase are undoubtedly thinking of an atrocious movie whose tagline was reminiscent of that phrase. however, it wasn’t the 5th of september we are to remember, but the 5th of november that must be remembered (ugh…there were far too many rhymes in there).

thus, anyone searching for the 5th of september is bound to land in a place they don’t intend, like this blog.

but fear not! i am dedicated to helping you find more about the fifth of september, whether you wanted to end up on this silly blog or not.

SOME NOTABLE FACTS ABOUT THE 5TH OF SEPTEMBER

so there you have it. free information on the 5th of september (thanks wikipedia).

i bet you’ll remember at least one of those facts…

Tech War

Posted in blogger's digest, blogging on August 4th, 2008 by genepensiero – 8 Comments

so, i manage a few websites at varying levels. for some i design and maintain, for others i just troubleshoot and do some tech support.

i don’t have any formal training, so everything i do is as-i-go trial and error. that means that sometimes i end up making the mistake of assuming everyone else utilizes the internet just like i do.

so today i have a couple of questions for anyone willing to comment (i know there are more visitors than commenters here…).

question the first: podcast vs blog. rate each on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being bestest, 1 being lamest), and tell me a reason why you prefer one over the other, if, in fact, you do have a preference.

question the second: rss vs live visit. do you use a reader or do you go and visit each blog? or, are you, in fact, like me and have a mixture of blogs you subscribe to in your reader as well as others you just visit?

question the third: what do you think the most important feature on a blog/website is (ok, ok, ONE of the most important features)? for example, you might say ‘content depth,’ or ‘visual appeal,’ or ‘music,’ or, if you are, in fact, like me, you might say, ‘a search bar.’

a. search. bar.

i can’t believe it when blogs and websites don’t have search bars.

just unbelievable.

anyway, please register 1 or many thoughts on the subjects above…i and the rest of the wide, wide world of web will be most appreciative.
