Parsing Parables
–
this past week i taught a couple studies for our evening services. each were on parables; their significance and general awesomeness. i’ll post the audio and transcripts, but i wanted to give you a little sneak peek into what i talked about:
Highlights
- parables are not sermon illustrations. they are not fables. they are not fun little stories to help kids learn morals. they may, at times, serve those purposes, but a parable is, above all other things, an invitation.
- parables often share a wonderful connectivity. as i encounter them in the Gospels it is important that i look for progressions and keep in mind the context.
- parables are an important part of Bible prophecy.
- parables were a preferred style of teaching for Jesus.
- parables melt my face.
i really enjoyed my study and prep for these 2 studies (i always like study and prep) and i feel like i really understood some new things (new for me, not for everyone).
if you happen to listen or read, i hope the Lord speaks to you.
ps - if you’re reading in a RSS reader, come on over to the real post for both studies.
