Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
{ Matthew 10.17-20 }
we believe that our God is active.
He’s actively conforming us into the image of His Son. He’s actively bringing us people to help, people to love and people to share His message with.
though, of course, these verses from Matthew have a direct application to the martyrs of the Church age, we also take comfort and excitement in the knowledge that Spirit-filled men, who have been raised up to teach the Church, are also given words and messages to speak by God, that the Lord’s people might be built up and stirred up in their faith.
when i remember that, it makes me view the sunday morning sermon in a whole new way.
yesterday @calvaryhanford we took a break from our verse-by-verse study of 1 Corinthians and jacob shared from John 21.
specifically, he spoke to us about satisfaction through the story of Simon Peter’s restoration by Jesus over a breakfast of fish.
from the Spirit to the speaker, to the speakers (in our case, JBL speakers), to me the hearer.
yesterday i heard that satisfaction is readily available to me.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
{ Matthew 5.6 }
Peter was a man who discovered that satisfaction comes only from being with Jesus. along the way, we learned that if we are not feeling satisfied, the reason isn’t because the Lord hasn’t offered it to us, but because we’re either:
• neglecting our study of the Bible
• missing the point of church
• serving for the wrong reasons or with wrong methods
or,
• comparing/coveting someone else’s ministry/calling
i’m excited to know that God loves me enough to speak to me.
and i’m even more excited to know that God wants me to be satisfied.
what did YOU hear yesterday?
